Natran R&I: a new page for RICE

4.02.2025

To mark its 20th anniversary, GRTgaz begins a new chapter in its history. The company becomes NaTran, with a new slogan: "the heart of your energies".

A name that conveys identity, ambition and transformation

NaTran is a name charged with meaning, illustrating our mission as a TRANsport operator, its TRANsformation, as well as our societal commitment to the preservation of NATure and energy TRANsition.

With its industrial and technological sounds, this new name reinforces the company's attractiveness and reflects its vocation: to ensure the balance of the gas system by developing the transport and logistics of gases essential to decarbonization and energy sovereignty in France and Europe (biomethane, hydrogen, CO₂).

The visual identity highlights our role as an infrastructure operator, with a dynamic central "T", symbolizing a network in motion, adapting to the challenges of the energy transition and the needs of our customers.

Yellow, a bright, dynamic color, recalls the bollards that discreetly signal the presence of the gas networks that criss-cross the French territory.

Last but not least, our signature, "The heart of your energies", affirms the central place of our network in the French and European energy landscape. It embodies NaTran's commitment to serving the public interest and all its stakeholders.

NaTran has set itself 5 major strategic objectives between now and 2030:

NaTran R&I: A dynamic of innovation serving the energy transition

With its new identity, GRTgaz becomes NaTran, and its research center is now identified as NaTran R&I.
The company is opening a new chapter in its history. Through its NaTran2030 project, the company aims to become a benchmark player in the transport and logistics of renewable and low-carbon gases in Europe. This transformation relies in particular on NaTran R&I, its research and innovation center, which plays a key role in supporting the energy transition.

NaTran R&I: Expertise for tomorrow's gas infrastructures

NaTran R&I, formerly known as RICE, is a research center whose expertise covers a broad spectrum of technological and scientific innovations applied to gas infrastructures and the energy transition. Through its work, NaTran R&I supports the evolution of the gas transmission network by integrating new solutions adapted to ecological and technological challenges.

With the support of an ecosystem of industrial, academic and institutional partners, NaTran R&I develops innovative solutions to optimize the safety, performance and adaptability of infrastructures to meet the challenges of biomethane, hydrogen and CO2 transport.

Accelerating innovation for a successful energy transition

NaTran R&I has positioned itself as an innovation gas pedal by setting up test platforms and technology demonstrators. These initiatives enable us to test tomorrow's technologies in real-life conditions, in particular for :

A strong commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050

As part of the NaTran2030 corporate project, NaTran R&I is fully in line with the company's ambition to devote over 50% of its annual investments to the energy transition. By supporting the development of high-performance, sustainable technological solutions, NaTran R&I is actively contributing to a five-fold increase in the volume of renewable gas in networks, and to the emergence of hydrogen and CO2 infrastructures in France and Europe.

As innovation is an essential lever for achieving these objectives, NaTran R&I is focusing on a collaborative approach, strengthening synergies between industrial players, research laboratories and startups. This cooperative model fosters the emergence of disruptive technologies capable of profoundly transforming the energy landscape.

NaTran R&I: A research center of excellence

With its recognized expertise and state-of-the-art infrastructures, NaTran R&I is a key player in applied energy research. Its work enables us to support regulatory developments, anticipate technical challenges and propose concrete solutions to decarbonize energy systems.

Thanks to the commitment of its teams and its ambition to innovate, NaTran R&I embodies NaTran's desire to be at the heart of tomorrow's energies, guaranteeing safe, efficient and sustainable transport of renewable and low-carbon gases. This dynamic is part of a long-term vision, that of a successful energy transition to carbon neutrality by 2050.
